Eye

Eyes are bright, no secretions. Left and right eyes are the same size.

An unhealthy cat

Ear

The ears are clean, with little or no earwax or other foreign objects. Healthy cats are responsive to their owner or other sounds in a quiet state, and their ears will move back and forth after hearing the sounds. Sick or hearing-impaired cats have little or no response to sound.

Nose

The front of the nose should be wet and cold, without too much secretion. But when the cat is asleep, the nose is dry.

Mouth

The mouth should be clean and dry, without saliva, food or bad breath. The gums, tongue and palate are pink or yellowish and there are no missing teeth.

Skin and Hair

Soft and elastic skin, moderate skin temperature, no redness, no lumps, no fleas or other parasites. The coat is thick, soft and shiny, without alopecia areata.

Anus

The anus and external genitalia should be clean without secretions, and the surrounding coat should not be covered with faeces. If the anus is very dirty, this may indicate diarrhoea or diseases of the reproductive system.
